At the International Christian School of Vienna, a US curriculum meets Austrian school structures and a Christian ethos. The centrepiece of our design for approximately 600 students aged 5 to 18 is a light-flooded atrium, which is surrounded by common areas with terraces on each level. On the multifunctional ground floor and in the large gymnasium, people come together for theatre performances, public events, sports tournaments, or simply to enjoy lunch. A friendly and bright place that expresses the values of the Christian community in a contemporary way.

A Campus in the Campus
Already at first sight, the building’s timber façade and greened ground floor makes an inviting and open impression. Upon entering the glazed foyer, a campus within a campus unfolds with a cafeteria, gallery to the sports hall, and access to the inner courtyard.
»Three different age groups will go to school here each day. Our task is to ensure they have a modern campus with a distinctive sense of identity – with independent classes and common areas for interaction.«
Multilayered Learning Landscapes
The rooms of the primary, middle, and high school are situated around the tiered atrium, each on their own respective level. The onion structure of the floorplan provides each class direct access to the central play and learning landscape with a view to the outdoor terraces.
»Inviting open spaces surround the multi-level atrium on three different levels, bringing plenty of daylight into the classrooms.«
Ample Space for Sport
The building plot is located in Vienna’s 22nd district, nearby the Rennbahnweg subway station. Our four-storey cubic volume with a lateral extension on the ground floor creates a smooth transition between the quiet single-family housing neighbourhood to the north and the bustling, urban south side. The two roof areas offer high-quality open spaces for sports and other functions on three levels. In the end, architects want to design a school that they would have liked to go to themselves. And we have accomplished this with our new school campus in Vienna.
